The Albatross
by Sheria Tshongo Mussonghora

Now that I've come this near
to find out what you hide so jealously
behind your smile
Bitter disappointment
to understand you'd never let me in
or show mercy

For being sharing my thoughts without caring with whom
is this what I deserve?
Do you think you can just get away after trampling on my soul?
Well, it's fine by me
I'll have your fears cut in my flesh once again

And I'm not sorry at all for my tender love for grief
I take your darkest side and make it
either beautiful or worse
I'll keep on showing you things that you just wouldn't see
keep on shouting those words that you'd rather not hear
and when you'll have had enough I'll give you more

But if justice drove your bolt
I'd offer my bare chest for the deathblow
but it won't be today
and it won't be me to say you've got me wrong
Let me be called your plague
but let my plague be called life
and let me try to fly
